"The rules!" shouted Ralph. "You're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits.
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"
But Jack was shouting against him.
"Bollocks to the rules! We're strong--we hunt! If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down! We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91)
I am doing my response on the text above. This is when Ralph is getting mad at Jack for not following the rules. Jack thinks that if there is a beast in the forest that they can just hunt it. He wants to say that so bad in the meeting, that he speaks without the conch. Ralph also says that the rules are the only thing that they have got.
Ralph was right when he said that it was the only thing that they have got. I do not think that Jack should of spoke out of turn. Jack just kind of makes up his own rules in a way. In later chapter we will find out about how that is very true. Whenever Jack does it he doesn't even care. Overall, in this argument between Ralph and Jack I agree with Ralph.
I agree with Ralph too, and I think that the way that Jack acts makes the whole idea of getting rescued a lot harder. nice post !
ReplyDeleteI agree that Ralph was right in this situation. I think this event foreshadows the division between Ralph and Jack. Nice job!
