Colin-Writing Center
Sutter- Student Prompt

Writing Center

I went to the writing center last Thursday. It actually turned out to be pretty successful for my paper. I got an appointment with Mary Oliver. She helped me develop my thesis to make have more points to write about. We added a couple of points and took some points out of my essay.
She also helped me on my outline. Some of my quotes were not that good. But the writing center helped me get quotes that supported my thesis and make more sense. If you are ever writing a paper I highly suggest you go to the writing center. Overall, the writing center is very helpful.

prompt

The prompt that I have chose is Charle's prompt. Describe the most memorable moment that has happened in your life so far and why it is memorable? The most memorial part of my life is when is when my very first dog Rexi had to put down. She was an old dog that had hip problems. She was a black lab that we had for about six years.
This is very memorable to me because she died because when I was in the second grade. It was very sad  for a second grader to lose their dog. We ended up getting her cremated and then buried her ashes. One year later we got two new puppy labs. One black one just like Rexi and one white lab. Now I get to love and care or Buddy and Bella.

Literary Analysis Process

So far in my literary analysis process I have finished my outing and have one page done in my rough draft. My paper is about, how Golding portrays fires throughout the book. I actually found many points for this topic. There are about five main fires that have happen in the book. There is not much that I have struggled with yet, except for with the introduction.
I would advise everyone to do the introduction first because I personally think that it the hardest things to do. That is because you can't give a summary about the book. I only have three sentences and then my thesis statement. Overall, I will finish my draft with time and the hardest part for mr was the introduction.

Free Post

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be Venice. I would want to go there because instead of roads, there roads are water. You would have to buy a boat to get around the towns. It would be awesome looking out your window and see people going around in boats, instead of cars. I bet there is a lot of tourism in Venice.
Also I bet everything in Venice would be very expensive. You can't really get too many good to Venice without it being expensive. A hotel room in Venice Would also be very expensive. If I ever went it most likely by pretty awesome though for the experience. Overall, I would want to travel to Venice if I could travel anywhere in the world.

symbolism

Symbolism comes in many different ways and in many different forms. When I was thinking about symbolism Thanksgiving was the first thing that came to mind. Thanksgiving can be symbolized by many different things like turkey, pilgrims, and other foods. For me Thanksgiving is symbolized by family.
Every year for Thanksgiving my family and I travel to Florida to see my dad's parents. It is pretty cool because we only get to see them about four times a year. It is really special because we all get to catch up as a family and enjoy tons of food. Overall, family is what symbolizes Thanksgiving for me.

How to make scrambled eggs

To make scrambled eggs you will need to start with a bowl and however many eggs you want. You then crack the eggs on the bowl and only the yolk part only goes into the bowl. You need to put the shells into the trash can. If you see any shells in the bowl pick them out with a fork. Then you mix the yolk in the bowl until it is smooth. Next, you poor the yolk into the pan.
While the eggs are in the pan you need to stir the whole time. Once the yolk turn into a pillow like substance then you know they are done and you can turn the pan off. Once you have done this you chop it up in the pan to make it scrambled. If you want to can add salt and peeper to make it better. The last step it to put he eggs on a plate and enjoy!

Scene From LOTF

The scene that I am doing from Lord of the flies is when piggy dies. Readers need to understand that piggy was almost Ralph's last hope for his side of the Island. He was the only one who still believed in the rules. One example is only talking if you have the conch. The bad thing is when piggy dies so does the conch. This happens on page 181"The conch is gone."
This is a very important scene in the book because Piggy is also the brains in Ralph's tribe. He is like the super ego in our class discussion. He makes sure that the tribe is not doing anything stupid. Piggy dying is also very important because Ralph need as many people as he can get for his tribe. Now all he has is Sam and Eric. That is not enough to take over Jack's tribe, as we later find out.

Free post- LSU Basketball

LSU's basketball team this year is not supposed to be good at all. However I think different. The first game of the season was Saturday against Wofford. LSU beat them really bad with a great performance from our freshman point guard Skylar Mays and our new center Duop Reath. If we keep playing like we did against Wofford, I don't see how we couldn't make the NCAA tournament.
This year our non conference games our pretty hard. We have to go the Bahama's to play Wichita State and Louisville. Louisville is the thirteenth ranked team in the nation. Our last hard non conference game is against Texas Tech. If we just play like we have been I don't think we will lose a game this season. Overall, I think LSU has a very good basketball team this year.

Write your own prompt

Question: How do you think the rest of LSU football season will end?

If you have not heard, LSU has lost their last football game to Alabama. LSU lost 10 to 0. Since LSU lost to Alabama they now have three losses witch mean they can no longer make it to the playoffs. This is a really big wake up call for the team. We are five and three. You have to have six win to be bowl eligible.
With three games left in the season it will be really hard for LSU to get to a bowl game. The next three games are against really good teams. Our next is against Arkansas, who we lost to last season. Then we play Florida, who we beat last season. Then last we play Texas A&M who we beat last season. Overall, I think it will be tough for LSU to make a bowl, but I think we will do it.

LOTF Response

"The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits.
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"
But Jack was shouting against him.
"Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91)

I am doing my response on the text above. This is when Ralph is getting mad at Jack for not following the rules. Jack thinks that if there is a beast in the forest that they can just hunt it. He wants to say that so bad in the meeting, that he speaks without the conch. Ralph also says that the rules are the only thing that they have got.
Ralph was right when he said that it was the only thing that they have got. I do not think that Jack should of spoke out of turn. Jack just kind of makes up his own rules in a way. In later chapter we will find out about how that is very true. Whenever Jack does it he doesn't even care. Overall, in this argument between Ralph and Jack I agree with Ralph.

Human Nature

I think all humans are basically born as good people. As people grow up they all have different experiences, people who influence them, backgrounds, and hardships. I believe all of these things help to form the type of person you will be as an adult. Parents and teachers also help form the type person you will be. One thing I know for sure is everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect.
The reason I believe this is because all the people I have met in my life. Some people are happy and always trying to be the best person they can be. I believe that is because of their religion and the people in their life. I have also met people who are sad and some who seem to always chose the wrong path. Overall, I believe there is happy and sad people in the world, and it is up to you what you want to be.

Reading Response

Lord of the Flies is about a class of boys that were in a plane that got shot down in a war. They are now stranded on an island and have to find a way to get rescued. The main character in the novel is Ralf. He is the voted leader, but he is not doing a very good job. The funny thing is about the Island they have all of the food and water they need for a long time. There is fields of fruit, and streams of fresh water.
So far this book has been very good because of the adventures the kids have gone on. I think it is interesting how the kids go places and discover new things. An example is when they discovered that the island was pink. The pink is big granite blocks all around the island. Overall, this is a very well written novel and I can't wait to keep reading.

Reading response

I am reading the maze Runner right now and Alby has now waken up from the changing. The girl is still asleep, but Thomas remembers her name, Tersesa. For the last couple of chapters the book has kind of just stayed in place. What I mean is the excitement level has stayed the same. It has been a boring couple of chapters.
So far the book has been really fun to read. What I mean is every chapter something new happens that you would forget that is coming. Like my last chapter I forgot that Alby was sleeping. I knew that he would wake up soon, but I forgot. I like how books can have that kind of excitement.

Fall Break Post

For Fall Break my family and I went to Orange Beach, Alabama to see Bayes Southern Bar and Grill. That is the name of my dad's new restaurant that he is opening. It will be opening on Monday at three o'clock. We are very exited for it to open because it has been pushed back because of construction. I think Bays will be very successful.
While we were in Orange Beach, we also went fishing. It was really fun because we caught animals I never would of thought that we would of caught. We caught a sting ray, that was really big. We also caught many catfish and pin fish. We couldn't keep any fish because they were not big enough. Overall, my fall Break was really fun.

Should We Abandon Louisiana? In Some Ways, We Already Have

Should We Abandon Louisiana? In Some Ways, We Already Have, written by Zack Kopplin, was a very eye opening passage for me to read. I could not believe that almost all the flood victims did not have flood insurance. Another thing the passage said was every hour a football field of lands is washed away in Louisiana. Zack Kopplin also said that the flood did not make the news until after the flood. This is shocking because Red Cross said that this was one of the biggest natural disasters in a long time.
At the end Zack Kopplin asked the question, "Should we rebuild Louisiana?" For one thing to help Louisiana stop sinking we should be able to do something to stop it. Also for all of ruined houses now because of the flood the owners should come back and fix them up. Overall, it is going to take Louisiana a long time to rebuild. Hopefully one day everything can come back to normal.

LSU Football

LSU had just recently fired their head coach Les Miles. I think that this is the best thing that could of happened for the team. If you were an opposing team playing LSU all you had to do is stop our running back and you would win. This is because Miles would not throw the ball. Our new head coach is Ed Orgeron, who used to be the defensive line coach.
In Ed's first game as head coach against Missouri we won by thirty five points. He threw the ball a lot more that running and our quarterback did great. I don't think Miles thought that our quarterback Danney Etling had what is took. Next week LSU plays in the swap against the Florida Gators. This will be a hard game, but I think the Tigers will come out on top.

The Maze Runner

Thomas and Minho had survived the night in the Griver filled maze. When they made it back the next morning no one could believe that they had survived. It was really interesting how the Auther of the book James Dasher made the scene I described so detailed. He gave words like the "strong, thick vines" and "dark, heavy machinery."I love books that describes words like this because it gives you such a clear picture of what is happening.
When James Dasher was talking about the dark, heavy machinery he was talking about the Grivers. Grivers are big machines that try to kill you by injecting nettles into you. After you get stuck by them you go through the changing. I explained what the changing is in my last blog post. Overall, I hope that the book is still just as good as I keep reading.

100 word story

There was one minute left on the clock in the close football game between Ole Miss and LSU. LSU was winning the game ten to seven. Ole Miss was one the forty five yard line. They get a first down on a quarterback scramble. There is now thirty seconds left in the game.
Chad Kelly Ole Miss's quarterback threw two incomplete passes. There is now ten seconds on the clock and Ole Miss is on the thirty five yard line. With ten seconds left they miss another pass with three seconds left on the clock. It is now fourth down, Ole Miss hikes the ball and throws it down the field. LSU picks it off which means we win the game!

The Maze Runner

I am still reading The Maze Runner as my independent reading book. Thomas has now entered the Maze because Alby and another glader were trapped inside. He has now killed himself, as the gladers would say. The people of the maze say that if you enter when the doors close there is no chance of surviving the night.
You might have a question of why would they not be able to survive a night in a maze. The answer is in the text. There are monsters that come out at night called grivers. The grivers sting people then you will go through the changing. The changing is basically turning into a monster that has the urge to attack people. This book has continued to be really interesting and I hope it keeps it up.

QB 1 By Mike Lupica

Jake Cullins, freshman quarterback, is expected to lead his team to the Texas State Championship, like his older brother. He learns to be the best person he can possible be, ignoring what anyone else thinks he should be. This is one of the best book that I have read. I usually only read sports book and this one is defiantly in my top five.
I read this book about one year ago for summer reading. I still remember all of details, this is how good this book was. This book is fiction about high school football in Texas. I would recommend this book to people who like sports and Mike Lupica.

Dear 7 Year Old's

Dear seven year old's enjoy the amount of homework you have now. It will soon change and you will have to do homework for every subject. You are in the first grade so you only have one subject to do homework in. Right now you probably think you have a lot of work but wait until high school.
In high school you will have like three hours of homework sometimes. In first grade you also have recess, in high school you can not play outside anymore. Also, enjoy your free time because it will soon be taken up.

911 World Trade Center Attack

On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked 4 airplanes and attacked the United States. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City.  One of the planes crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; which is the U.S. military headquarters. The 4th plane was of fought down by passengers which made the terrorists miss their target. In all, nearly 3,ooo people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.
A terrorist group out of the Middle East, led by Osama Bin Laden, was responsible for the attack on the U.S.  America responded by attacking Afghanistan, where Al Quada was based. The attacks resulted in the U.S. government taking steps to make a safer country. They tightened security in many public areas, and the Department of Homeland Security was created.

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner by James Dashner is a fictional novel. It is the first book in a four book series. I have watched The Maze Runner Movie before but never read the book. I am only sixty pages into the book and I can already tell a difference in the detail. For example, the book has a window where you can see into the the and the movie does not.
The main character Thomas gets sent up to a maze with his memory wiped with whole bunch of strangers. They have to figure a way to get out without dying. So far the book has been very interesting and adventurous. I know that the book can only get better from here.

Boat

Over the summer my dad got a new boat. It's a twenty two foot open fisherman boat. Over the summer we go to Orange Beach all the time and thats when we ride it. The most fun thing on the boat for me is being dragged behind it on a tube. We go really fast and have to try to stay on without filling off.
Another one of my favorite things to do on the boat is pull up to Florda-Bama Yhat Club. That is a restaurant that is on the beach and it is half way in Florida and Alabama. I always get the same thing, the shrimp basket. Overall, the boat was definitely one of the best parts of my summer.

Summer Ball

Summer Ball by Mike Lupika is a novel about a Danny who goes to summer camp. The camp is a overnight basketball camp for three weeks. Over time during the camp he become a better person by learning a valuable lesson. This book is the only one, it is not in a series.
I would suggest this book to people who like basketball and sports in general. The book is under three hundred pages and is very interesting. This book is in my top five best books that I have read. Overall, if you want to read a book that is short and interesting you should read this book.

The Warf Orange Beach

Over the summer I went to the Warf in Orange beach. My family and I went because my dad is opening a restaurant in the Warf called Bays Southern Bar and Grill. It's going to be on the bottom of a hotel that people are in the process of building. The restaurant was suppose to open up in May, but it still hasn't open. It's now suppose to open on September 18th.While we are over we sleep in a condo that is a five minute walk to the warf.
One of my favorite things about the resturant that my uncle is going to be the bar manager. He is staying at the condo with us. A cool thing about the condo is the pool. The pool has a waterslide and a lazy river. At the warf there is also a ferris wheel, miniature gulf course, and a arcade. Over the summer I went to the warf five times. Since we are only five minutes from the beach we get to go everyday we are there. Overall, my summer was ten times better because of Bays.

The Old Man and the Sea

One of my summer reading books is The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. This novel is basically an old man who goes out to sea for a week and come back with a big fish that has been eaten by sharks. One thing I didn't understand in the book is why the only two characters in the book didn't have names. They were just called the old man and the boy. The boy helped the old man all the time and was his best friend. During the old mans voyage he talked a lot about the boy and he really wanted his help catching the fish.
One thing in the book I thought was cool was when he got back to shore the next day how everybody was around his boat looking at the fish skeleton. At the end the old man through the skeleton back into the water. At the end he also said to the boy that he could come fishing with him next time. I can relate to this book in a very small way. I have never been deep sea fishing, but I have fished before. I would recommend this book to really anyone, it's one of the most interesting book I have ever read.
