Reading Next Book

I agree with the statement "Ambition is a positive, desirable trait in a person."Ambition is the will to accomplish a goal. If someone is trying to accomplish a goal, it is hard to think of that as not positive trait in someone. Unless, the person is not trying very hard. Or the goal is something very bad. Overall, I strongly agree.
For this statement I agree and don't agree with it, "Women are more compassionate and less violent than men." An example of this is that men make up most of our military. That is because girls don't normally like violence. This obviously isn't always true though. There are plenty of women in the military.

Hits and Misses

My best writing this year by far is the blog post that are free post. I am good at this because I can write stuff that I am really good at. For an example one thing I know a lot about is sports. I can write about many different teams and stuff that happened. Also, I can write about my sports experiences. With all of this, that means that I can also write a lot more that usual.
My worst writing this year was the writing where we had to describe story in great detail. I thought that I had enough detail, but it needed a lot more. It was a fun writing, I just wasn't good at it. Also it was my worst grade on that paper. It was also a hard paper to get it to the required length.

Prompt

My prompt was, "What places do you remember fondly from childhood?" As a child I remember many things and places that I have seen. But the best one of all has to be the Daytona 500. My dad, grandpa, and I all go to Daytona, Florida, to see the nascar race every year. It is kind of hard to not remember a stadium that can hold thirteen Tiger Stadiums in it. I loved racing ever since my dad has been taking me. We still go till this day.
This is such a big event that every year we can only get a hotel an hour away from the stadium. The stands are sold out every year with 100,000 people coming. The track is 2 miles, so there is only stands by the start- finish line. The Daytona 500 was places that I remember most fondly of from childhood.

Strategies for Purple Hibiscus

My strategy for Purple Hibiscus was to annotate. I would try and get one to two underlined important parts of the page. Then I would write a caption of why I underlined. That is what I did for the first two bread and butter assignments, now I do the reading responses. Annotating for every single page gets very time consuming. A challenge that I am finding is the time that it takes for me to read very night, so that is the main reason that I switched.
Now since I am doing the reading responses I read the chapters still annotating, but with only underlined parts every couple of pages for the really important parts. Since we are finishing the book on Tuesday, we won't be able to to this. But I think for the next book we should not have a chapter due, so people can catch up on reading. I couldn't read a chapter one day in the middle of the week because of homework and it was so hard to come back from that.

Current Politics

The source that I found was a video and article from the Bill O'Reilly show. What he talks about is how politicians hurt America because they are worried about their political parties and not what good for America. One of Mr. Reilly's big points was on how Democratic politians support Obama care even though it is hurting the country. The only reason that they are supporting it because it was passed by Obama. They are not looking out for the good of the country, just the good of their party.
Also what Mr. Reilly talks about is how presidents will not always pass the laws that they want to, but it is not a big deal. An example is when President Trump got hurt on the health care vote. Another example was when Obama wanted to close Guantanamo Bay and ramp up social justice, but neither of these ever happened. I agree with both of these points very strongly. Overall, the two major points that Bill O'Reilly makes are how politicians are hurting America, and how presidents won't always pass the bills they want to.

Learning Reflection

This year as a student, reader, and writer I have improved a lot. I can write faster now that I am doing it a lot more with the blogs. Also practicing every week with the blogs help me with bigger assignment, like the essays. My essay grades have improved this year, and I feel like they are getting easier. I hope that it will stay like this for the rest of the year.
As a student my grades are the same as every year. I just need to study for test more than one night. My study habits are very lazy. If I do that my grades will be better and I won't have as much stress anymore. This year as a reader I have improved too. It all has to do with the 120 minutes that we do every week. I hope to keep improving in these subjects as my high school career keeps going.

The NCAA has now started their yearly tournament for the end of the season. Every team is seeded from one to sixteen in four brackets to make a final four. Then final two, then champion. Every year people fill out brackets to try and get a perfect bracket, or come in first in their group that they play with. It is nearly impossible to get the whole thing perfect. Experts say that you have a better change of winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning.
The bracket that I have filled out this year is a disaster. One of my final four teams are out and two of my elite eight teams are out. Altogether I have like twelve loses already and the sweet sixteen hasn't even started. For this year already there re no perfect brackets. Hopefully next year will be better for everyone.

Song

"Dark Turn of Mind" by Gillian Welch uses internal rhyme to show the mood of the song. He says, "But oh ain't the nighttime so lovely to see? Don't all the nightbirds sing sweetly?" The words "nighttime" and "nightbird" give the mood of a dark feeling. Also it tells you that this during the night.

Welch also uses repetition through senses. "Now I see the bones in the river, And I feel the wind through the pine, And I hear the shadows a-calling..." He uses the senses of touch, sight, and hearing to give some of the mood the the song too.

Over the break I went to the Daytona 500. The Daytona 500 is a nascar race that is in Daytona, Florida. In the racing season the Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the year. It is also the first race of the year, which makes the sport very unique. In each race there is three stages. The first two are 80 laps and the third is 60 laps. The winners of the stages get points and the winner gets points. Also, if you lead a lap you will get points. This a brand new system for points that nascar did this year.
I have been going to the Daytona 500 for five years in a row now. I always go with my grandpa and dad. We always used to go for Jeff Gordon, but he retired last year. Now me and my dad go for Chase Elliot. My Grandpa likes Chase, but he like Kasey Kane more. This year we are also trying to go a race in Alabama or Texas. The races are super fun and we hope to go again for many more years.

poem

The super sad spider
spinning its web
slither slither,
the sound he makes.
About to die
the hungry cat goes
his, his, his.
The cat goes
takes one bite
the spider is gone.

Vocab words

Me and my sister had a strife last night. We have to share a room since our house got flooded. She is like a despot because she doesn't allow me into the room. The only thing that I can do is keep my stuff in the room and sleep in there. I don't really need to go into the room unless I need to get something out. So, it doesn't bother me to bad. But last night I needed to use the room for homework.
Normally my sister does homework in our room and I do it in the living room. Yesterday I needed to switch with her because I need a quite place to study social studies. I asked her and she said no. I didn't feel like arguing so I got my mom  and said that she needed to leave. She did and I got to study in quite. My mom also said to my sister that you are subordinate to me.

Research

One thing that I have learned so far in my Research paper is how to properly do in text citations. This important because if you want to use a quote for your paper you have to use this. There are many ways to properly cite an intent citation. In my paper I have two in text citations and they really help develop my paper. I did the citations in two different ways, so that it doesn't seem like I used the same way every time.
The second thing that I have learned while doing my research project is how much better databases are. Databases are better than google. Databases have more educated people typing the information. Also you can also ways get a quick and easy citation from the database. I learned that the school provides a list of databases under the library webpage. Overall during the research project I have learned how do do an intent citation and what databases are used for.

Reading response

Now that Junior is at the new white school his best friend Rowdy doesn't like him anymore. Junior tries to be nice to him during Thanksgiving. He goes up to his house because he drew him a picture but his dad said that he was not home. It turns out that he was home because Junior saw him trough the window. He didn't rip up the drawing thought.
I think that this means that Rowdy still wants to be friends with Junior. He jut doesn't want to show it because he probably thinks that it would make him look soft. This book keeps getting better and better. I hope all of the fighting disappears between the two friends so that they can come back together. Overall, I really like this bookend hope it keeps getting more interesting.

Free Post Disney World Parks

As we all know Disney World has four different parks. They have the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. My favorite park is magic Kingdom because of the rides. It has Thunder Mountain which is my most favorite in all of Disney. Magic Kingdom also has space mountain which is really cool too. The park I really don't like is Epcot. The only thing that I like in it is Soren.
My second favorite park has got to be Animal Kingdom. It is really cool because it is like a zoo with rides everywhere. I favorite ride in Animal Kingdom is Mount Everest. I love that ride because it goes backwards. I also like a water ride which is in that park. Third overall is Hollywood studios. I mainly like Hollywood Studios because of the Rock n roller coaster. If you ever get the chance to go disney world I highly suggest it.

Reading Response

So far in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the main character junior gives the reader background about his life. He is a poor Indian who has no hope in life. I thought that it was really cool how even though junior through a book at the teacher he still tried to help him. Now junior is going to an all white school. Also, Junior's best friend is a guy who beats people up and gets beat by his dad.
Junior things thinks now since he is going to an all white school that he will be judged. He thinks that people will think that he crazy or think that he really brave. I think that it is very brave of him to do this. Not to mention he left his best friend who beats everyone up for him. This book so far has been very interesting. I can not wait to here what will happen next with the school situation.

Howard Carter

My project is on the man who discovered King Tut's tomb and many others. His name is Howard Carter. The only reason that King Tut is so famous is because he discovered him in the twentieth century. Howard Carter even has his own museum named after him. Before he was an archeologist he was an artist. He also worked for the Egyptian Government.
Howard Carters most famous discovery is King Tut. He found the tomb in the valley of the kings. When they found the tomb it took ten years to completely search it. In the tomb he obviously found mummy and many gold statues and other valuables. Overall, I think that Howard Carter is the most successful archeologist in the twentieth century.

refection on 1st semester

In the first semester this year I realized that I was not as prepared for exams as I thought I was. My exams grades were going to be better than what I got. I also learned that some classes are easier to prepare for than others. My two hardest exams were Latin and Social Studies. I am bad at those because it is a memorizing class.
For finals I am going to have to just take for time to review everything. I only studied like three days for each exam. Next time for Latin and social studies I will spend five to six days. The good thing about exams though is that they are stuff you have already learned. Overall, I am going to be more prepared for my next exams.

Research Update

So far my research has gone pretty well. I have all the sources that I need, and I finished my annotations. The annotations were hard to do, because it took so much time to do. I liked how we had a few days to work on them though. I think that it is smart how both English and Science class are doing the project.
A big help with the project is that both class periods are used for completed the work needed for the project. This would be like impossible to do without that. I am now starting the notecards and they are easier that the annotations. The thing is though we have to have 35 of them. Overall, the project is going well and will hopefully stay that way.

Free Post- LSU Basketball

This year the LSU basketball team started the non-conference games very strong. Our recored ended up being nine and three. That sounds good, but it really wasn't that good because we beat really bad teams. Now SEC games have started and everything has gone downhill. We are one and four in SEC play.
The easier part of our SEC schedual was the beginning, which obviously didn't go that well. I don't the Tigers will be making the NCAA tournament this year. I even think that the head coach Johnny Jones will get fired after this year. Especially since we have not made the tournament in two years. Overall, this is a very tough year for the Tigers.
